Toys for cats of wine lovers

If you are a 'cat person' and a wine lover then you probably have had an experience where you are sipping your merlot and while peering over your wine glass you see your cat (or cats) staring at you, with a look that you can't quite put your finger on. For a fraction of  second you ponder giving your cat a saucer of wine and then instantly realise that its probably not a good idea. This is where Munchiecat and their catnip wine and cheese toys come into the picture.

Dark Souls - The Board Game

The launch and immediate success of the 'Dark Souls - The Board Game' crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter made me incredibly happy and equally optimistic about the current (and future) state of strategic board games and tabletop gaming in general. With over 18 000 backers and 1.8 million British Pounds (3.8 million Namibian Dollars) raised mid way through its campaign, 'Dark Souls - The Board Game' is gearing up to be one of the most successful tabletop projects on Kickstarter and, in my opinion, one of the most significant of the last few years.

While it is probably safe to say that very few crowdfunded tabletop games will ever compare to the success of 'Exploding Kittens' (having raised over U$8.7 million from 200 000+ backers), 'Dark Souls - The Board Game' has already etched its way into third spot in terms of the number of backers for tabletop games on Kickstarter and will, most probably, finish with the second most backers. This is huge, not only for the game itself (and subsequent fan base), but it is a big deal for tabletop gaming across the board.

Pinstripe - An Adventure Through Hel

Kicking of a new series of weekly blog posts titled 'Kickstarter Projects of the Week' (hence the hashtag #KSPOTW), I want to start off with a project that is both 'bizarre and beautiful' as well as an inspiration on a personal level.  Pinstripe - An Adventure Through Hell is a 2D adventure video game about an ex-minister named Teddy who must explore Hell in search of his daughter Bo, who has been kidnapped by a strange entity claiming to be God.

This amazingly artistic looking adventure game is the result of the passion and dedication of a one-man development team and all credit goes to Thomas Brush and his development studio Atmos Games. Thomas has single-handedly been working on Pinstripe for more than three years and just by looking at the artwork and campaign video on Kickstarter, you can see that this project is not just another indie video game, but a fine work of art.

Hunter 1.0 - Mechanical gaming keypad

Many off the big brand peripheral manufactures like Logitech, Razor, Thermaltake and Belkin along with lessor known brands like Cyber Snipa, ACEPHA and TAC have all added PC gaming keypads or gamepads to their arsenal of gaming weapons. The latest entry to this niche peripheral market is Hunter with their Hunter 1.0 mechanical keypad for PC.

The world's first no-pressure head bed

Everyone loves, wants and needs a good night's rest; its a simple fact of life. Not so simple however, is actually getting a good night's sleep. Hem + Haw: Turning old jeans into new bags

If you are reading this then you probably love your denims. And if you love your denims then you have probably worn out a pair of jeans and had to toss them. It is sad to see a good pair go, but what is more sad, is the fact that in the United States alone, more than 4 million tons of clothing and textiles get discarded each year. Hem + Haw is a creative project that seeks to put a dent (albeit a tiny one) into this issue and doing so in style.

Axum - Wireless Sports Earbuds

The race has been on over the last year or so as to who will be the overall winner in the wireless earbud race. And for sportsmen and women, that race has been closely watched. Most well established brands have launched their own earbuds, but it has been the 'indie' product design market which has put serious contenders into the race. Axum Gear, a new entry looking to come out on top, has an interesting pair.

Frequent economy class travellers know this all to well; sleeping well on a long flight is near impossible. Space is limited, seat position is less than ideal and in flight pillows are pointless. A standard travel pillow can help, but only to a small degree. A new Kickstarter project has evolved the U-shaped travel pillow and claims it is like upgrading to 'sleeping class'.
